In the 1990's, David and Emy Woodburn traveled for almost a decade with their young daughter Mattea, in a motorcycle and sidecar outfit. They lived on the road, and the experiences they had were unlike anything the average family has, including homeschooling while travelling and growing up in many different cultures.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Horizons Unlimited, a resource for adventure travellers, especially motorcyclists. Founded in 1987 by Grant and Susan Johnson, their website, forum and events around the world, inspire people to follow their dreams and travel to far away places. Back in 1982, Helge Pedersen bought one of the first BMW R80GS motorcycles to enter his home country, Norway. He sold everything he owned and soon found himself in South America crossing the Darien Gap, a feat which few attempt. Helge stayed on the road, living a vagabond lifestyle for 10 years. His story is an unusual and exciting one, with a wealth of information to inspire and guide motorcyclists around the world.

Phuc Lam from Shorai Inc, and also an avid motorcyclist, explains lithium batteries in this episode.
Since 2010, Shorai has been the maker of lithium iron phosphate batteries. Shorai LFX batteries are up to 80 percent lighter than equal performance lead acid batteries, which can mean saving anywhere from 2 to 20 pounds, depending what kind of bike you ride. They operate at a higher voltage range and maintain a higher voltage level during cranking, which means your motorcycle starts more quickly.

From 1993 to 1997, Heather Ellis went on an adventure on her Yamaha TT600 through Africa, and from the United Kingdom to Vietnam. She recently published her book Ubuntu: One Woman's Motorcycle Odyssey Across Africa, which chronicles her journey in Africa. Catherine Germillac, has been riding the same motorcycle for going on 30 years, a small 2-stroke Yamaha DTMX 125. As a young woman, setting out on a solo motorcycle wasn't a common thing to do in the late 1980's. But being inspired by Ted Simon's Jupiter's Travels, she fell in love with the idea of motorcycling, travel and adventure, purchased her beloved motorcycle, that she calls Desiree, took some lessons and then started riding.

Between 2010 and 2013, Dylan Wickrama was on a world trip on his motorcycle. He left with no plans and he had a tight budget. On his trip he covered 210,000 km and road through 80 countries, starting in Switzerland and ending in Argentina. His RTW trip wasn’t about speed, distance or setting records, but it was about exploring the world, meeting people and discovering places.

his isn't a story about a long road trip, it's about living on the road. Lisa and Simon don't think about the end of the road, or plan for a flight home, because the road is their home. They usually sleep in a tent, they cook outside, and they wouldn't have it any other way. And after 13 years of living off their bikes, with nature as their kitchen and bedroom back drop, there are no plans to settle down, at least not yet and who knows if ever?
