After exploring Mexico’s Copper Canyon, motorcycle traveller Andy Scherer decided to continue west through the mountains toward the coast. The route looked straightforward on the map, but the farther he travelled, the more isolated the road became—and the more things began to feel wrong.
The pavement was strangely empty and covered with debris. A man ran toward the road, urgently trying to wave him down. Two men passed on a small motorcycle, one of them speaking into a radio. Andy knew the warning signs were adding up, but turning around no longer felt like the safer choice.
Then he came around a corner and found armed men blocking the road.
