One Chance to Say Yes: Where a Motorcycle Can Take You

There are probably things most of us can look back on and wonder what might have happened if we'd said yes instead of no. Heather Lea was twelve years old when her father asked her a question. It probably didn’t seem particularly important at the time, but the answer she gave him would stay with her for years—and, in hindsight, may have changed the direction of her life.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

Long before motorcycles became a serious part of Heather’s life, she had already climbed mountains, worked as a whitewater guide and travelled through Africa alone. She had built a life around going places, trying things and taking chances. Then, as she approached forty, she began to notice herself becoming more cautious. And there was one idea that had been sitting quietly in the background since she was twelve years old. Maybe it was time to stop putting it off.

What followed would eventually become a round-the-world motorcycle journey through 40 countries and more than 58,000 miles—but the distance is only part of the story. It’s also about adventure motorcycling, risk, the opportunities that appear unexpectedly, and what can happen when you decide to say yes before they disappear.
