RAW LISTENER QUESTIONS:

Have a question for the RAW panel? Send it to us here.

Peter Burns: My wife and I are just starting to plan a trip to do old Route 66 on bikes in about 18 months time, over about 3-4 weeks. Due to the high cost of hiring bikes (she rides her own) we are considering shipping our bikes from Melbourne, doing the trip and then shipping them back; OR buying a couple of bikes in the US and then either selling at the end of the trip or shipping them home to sell here (or add to the collection if I can get away with it...)

Wondering if any of the panelists had an opinion or experiences on which would be preferable for a short trip such as this? Pitfalls or things to consider in buying / registering / insuring bikes in the US as tourists (other than the obvious questions around condition, etc)? Or any other options that we haven't thought of?

We talked about bike rentals and borrowing or buying a bike in the country you want to visit. In that we mentioned rider to rider rentals. Here’s a link to the episode on Rider to Rider rentals.

Paul Moore: I keep all of my important things in my tank bag while riding, when I am off the bike I take my tank bag off as it has straps to wear it as a backpack. My question is, how do you secure it when you are walking around to keep it from getting taken from you if you're carrying it, or while say sitting in a café?

PANEL TOPIC: WHAT COULD MAKE YOU A BETTER MOTO TRAVELER?

We asked the RAW panel if there was one thing they felt they needed to improve on for motorcycle travel, what would it be?
